Kathy M. Sheehan is the Treasurer and Chief Fiscal Officer for the City of Albany. She is responsible for the collection, receipt, care and custody of all taxes and monies due the City. She also manages the city’s investments and debt, including the issuance of municipal bonds. In addition, she is responsible for the preparation of the City’s financial statements and manages the City’s Payroll, Parking Violations and Computer Services departments.

Sheehan was elected to office in November 2009. Prior to entering politics, she was vice president and general counsel of Intermagnetics General Corporation (Nasdaq: IMGC), a leading medical device manufacturer based in the Capital Region with annual sales in excess of $300 million. In 2006, Sheehan helped lead the sale of IMGC to Philips Medial Systems for $1.3 billion.

As a member of the senior management team at IMGC, Sheehan participated in strategic planning and key decision-making regarding the direction of the business. She also advised the company and its board of directors on corporate governance, securities law compliance, mergers and acquisitions and other legal matters.

Sheehan is a magna cum laude graduate of Albany Law School, where she distinguished herself as a note and comment editor for the Albany Law Review. She received her B.S. in Journalism, cum laude, from Bowling Green State University. Sheehan is a member of the Albany Family Education Alliance, the St. Anne Institute Advisory Board and the Board and Executive Committee of Proctors Theatre. She formerly served on the board of the St. Vincent DePaul Apartments, a HUD housing project for senior citizens and disabled adults, as a trustee of St. Vincent DePaul Church, as treasurer of the New Scotland Elementary School (formerly School 19) PTA, on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Albany and the Deans Advisory Council at Albany Law School. She received the 2006 Albany Law School Distinguished Alumni Award and was a 2002 recipient of the Business Review’s “40 under 40” Award.

Sheehan lives in Albany with her husband, Bob, and their 11 year old son.
